Ludwig Bemelmans letters [manuscript] 1939-59.

In letters to editor and bookdealer Georgia Lingafelt, Bemelmans discusses attempts to sell his drawings at a show in New York and mentions his book "Madeline," 1939, which he claims is "the best so far" and will be "a big book...." Several letters contain pencil sketches and one closes "Gott strafe Hitler." In a letter to Richard Trombly's 5th grade class, he discusses his early years and the creative process and notes that he once had a governess like Miss Clavel. A letter to [Whit] Burnett sends corrections to [Story Magazine?] and includes an ink and watrercolor sketch of dogwalkers surrounding Gramercy Park. There is also an ink sketch of Alexander Woollcott.
